A weekend for two on the Sarthe

16-croisiere-fluvial-bateau-nicols-primo

My husband and I went to Sablé-sur-Sarthe in August 2012. We’d originally booked a Nicols 800, but when we got there, the team offered to show us their new 2 berth boat, the PRIMO, which had just arrived from the Nicol’s Yacht boatyard. As the difference in price wasn’t huge, we were tempted! So we set off on this brand-new little boat, and we were more than a little proud to be onboard! (especially my husband, who felt like a real captain!). As well as the boat which was fantastically well-equipped and very spacious and light for a small 2/4 berth boat, we really loved the route: time spent at the foot of Solesmes Abbey (sadly we arrived too late to hear the service famous for its Gregorian chant!) and Malicorne where we discovered the pottery factories… A great holiday if a bit too short and we’re definitely returning to Sablé but for longer next time!

Thanks to the whole team on site: Jean-François, Antoine, Raphaël and Emilie, so helpful and welcoming… we have excellent memories of our holiday and will see you soon!

Escape in the heart of France

After discovering a section of the canal that runs alongside the Loire in Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses, we decided to explore it starting from Plagny aboard a Quattro (Sully).

Our cruise was extremely pleasant because of the landscapes and autumnal colours but also because we could go one way to Rogny, and that allowed us to visit the upper Loire Valley and places such as Sancerre and even the Guétin and Briare aqueducts.

Like all our other holidays, it’s always a pleasure to cruise with Nicols!!

Nature and lakes… a palette of blues and greens!

We recently completed a cruise (mini-week, from Monday to Friday) from the new base opened by NICOLS in Wustrau – near Berlin. We’re big fans of nature, and we certainly got what we wanted! 🙂 .

The cruise also included interesting visits to tourist attractions, which we thoroughly enjoyed: for example we discovered Neuruppin, the town of the famous poet Theodor Fontane, and its church of the Holy Trinity which can be accessed from the edge of the lake. The Fontane hotel, with its magnificent spa looking onto the lake is one of the largest in northern Germany. We then continued towards the lock at old Ruppin and travelling along the Rhine we saw magnificent properties accessible from the water. Nature here is unspoilt, there’s lots of wildlife to see and a chain of small lakes took us to Lindow; we were amazed by the quality of the clear and limpid waters of the «  »Güdelacksee » ». In Lindow, we visited the ruins of the old cloister and then travelled to Vielitz lake for walks in beautiful countryside…

For us who were keen to get back to nature… it proved to be a really successful holiday! 🙂 For lovers of the great outdoors, don’t hesitate, Wustrau is a fantastic starting point for a cruise between the blue of the water and the blue of the sky… and the green of the surrounding landscapes!

Six Friends in a boat Octo, at Dole

Cruising along the waterways of eastern France is a pleasure best shared among friends, as Zoë McIntyre explains

We rose surprisingly early, when the light flickering through the trees was soft and wood-scented dew still coated the ground.

Our host, the river, was cloaked in a hazy band of morning mist that hid a shock of blue sky. As sleepy bodies emerged from each cabin of our boat, morning greetings were exchanged in hushed tones so as not to disturb the magical morning silence.

Journey to the heart of Burgundy

A perfect holiday aboard a Nicols 900.

After getting to know our boat at Brienon, we meandered towards Venarey on a one-way cruise.

We were astounded by the quality of the restaurants, the attractions, and the perfect state of the locks thanks to the French waterways authority. Our stopovers were amazing and the Burgundy canal is really easy to navigate.

Thank you to all the Nicols team for our outstanding holiday.
