4 Québécois sur le Canal du Midi

Nous sommes 4 Québécois qui ont loué le Nicols 1010 « Émilie » du 11 au 18 septembre dernier au départ de Bram à destination de Le Somail. Je tenais à vous remercier de l’accueil tout d’abord à « L’Eau-berge » où nous avons pris 2 excellents repas et aussi lors de la prise de possession du bateau et lors de sa remise une semaine plus tard.

Que de souvenirs agréables (et plus d’un millier de photos!) Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre bateau(N1010), la visibilité, l’habitabilité et sa facilité de fonctionnement. Bien que ce n’est pas le modèle de bateau le plus rencontré sur le Canal du Midi, nous avons fait la connaissance d’un québécois lors d’un arrêt à une écluse qui avait un bateau d’une autre compagnie, nous lui avons fait visiter le nôtre et il a été impressionné tout comme nous de l’impression d’espace, bref nous sommes très satisfaits de notre choix et nous vous recommandons à toutes nos connaissances qui nous ont demandé nos commentaires sur ce voyage.

Wie versprochen, melde ich mich und kann berichten, dass wir einen ganz tollen Urlaub hatten, sicher auch, weil das Team von Amieira echt bemüht war, uns in jeder Situation behilflich zu sein.

DANK an die tolle Crew insbesondere an Victor und die netten Damen.

Die Auto-Anmietung hat geklappt, erst hatte man keine Reservierung, aber nach einem Telefonat mit der Marina Amieira hat man nach einigem hin und her uns ein Auto zur Verfügung gestellt, gut so! Wir hatten ein Navi aus Deutschland mitgenommen und haben ohne Probleme nach Amieira gefunden. Gut war auch, dass wir schon Grundnahrungsmittel an Bord hatten, eine tolle Idee, haben diese Möglichkeit dann auch genutzt.

Konnten dann am Sonnabendabend noch ein tolles Menü im Restaurant einnehmen. Am Sonntagmorgen ging die große Fahrt dann los… hatten für die Jungs noch ein 2-Mann-Kajak angemietet, welches die Jungs gut genutzt haben.

Die Saison war durch und somit hatten wir Ruhe und Erholung pur…. tolles Wetter, um die 25 Grad C, tolle Sonnenuntergänge…natürlich war auch Schwarzbarsch auf unserem Speiseplan! 

Rundum ein toller Urlaub, da waren wir uns alle einig… und natürlich dürfen dann auch nicht die Fang-Bilder von Jona und Flo (mit Sonnenbrille) fehlen. Die beiden Jungs haben wirklich rund um die Uhr geangelt… ach ja, gut, dass wir Angelscheine hatten, wurden auch 1x an einem Anlege-Steg, direkt vor der Staumauer, von 2 Polizisten kontrolliert.

Randy and Bill Baskerville on the Midi Canal…

05-cite-medievale-de-carcassonneMy husband, Bill Baskerville, and I are writing on behalf of our lovely boating experience on the “Perpignan” of your Nicols fleet from September 25 to October 2nd, 2010. We could not have chosen a more beautiful time of year or a more perfect boat in which to explore a portion of the Midi Canal.

From the start of our adventure, we felt well cared for. The kitchen staff at the office at Bram fed us a magnificent Cassoulet lunch (complete with a delicious “vin du pays”) while we awaited our boat’s preparation and cleaning. Patrick then gave us a thorough explanation of the ins and outs of boat usage, along with a test drive for “Captain Bill.” It was helpful that we were given suggestions for which villages were the most picturesque and the “not to miss” ones, such as Carcassonne.

We soon found the locks manageable, even for a novice, learning to simplify the process in a double lock by having one of us stay on shore to “walk” the boat through the locks. We found our boat to be well outfitted for cooking and were able to pick up groceries in small villages along the way. There were also many excellent restaurants when we felt like a night off from cooking. Except for one spot, there were no tie up fees at night, and there were always spots where we could refill the water tanks.

The Perpignan comfortably slept up to four adults with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The beds were comfortable, closet space adequate and bathrooms workable. (The tiny showers took some getting used to!) It also had a sizable living space in between the bedrooms and deck space fore, aft and on top. There were a number of deck stools but we could have used a couple of backed chairs in the aft deck. The front deck got a lot of use: my friend, Yvette, and I did some sketching with pastels there while Captain Bill steered the boat. After dinner, we had nightly, rousing games of Gin Rummy on the kitchen table as we enjoyed some of the wonderful wines from the Minervois region drank the vin du pays—always exceptional.
We decided to take a one-way trip beginning in Bram and disembarking in Le Somail. One week proved to be an adequate time frame for this piece of the canal; in fact, we went on a little farther to Angeliers before returning to Le Somail. Our favorite villages, besides Carcassonne, were Villesquelande Trèbes, Paraza, and Ventenac de Minervois (wonderful wine co-op there). Along the way, we passed gorgeous vineyards and rows of old Sycamores lining the canal. We wondered how the lavender and sunflower fields would look in different seasons.
At the Nicols landing in Le Somail, we chose to clean our own boat rather than pay the fee, after which Patrick gave us our inspection and photos were taken of all of us on the Perpignan. We then took a cab to the car rental for the next leg of our journey. We will always have fond memories of our boating trip along the beautiful Midi Canal and now understand why so many British, American, Australian and German tourists vacation there too. Thank you, Nicols, for such a lovely service.

Croisière 2010 au Portugal, Amieira, Grande Lago

Je tiens tout d’abord à vous dire que notre séjour au Portugal à bord d’un DUO en juillet de cette année a été une expérience extraordinaire.
Le système de location de voiture est très bien organisé. Le personnel de la base d’Amieira est au top, super sympa et très serviable. Le bateau est beau et très bien équipé et le Grande Lago est une pure merveille.
Pour toutes ces raisons nous souhaitons y retourner début septembre 2011…

Cruise with a Nicols OCTO in Brittany

I’m back from my holidays in Brittany and I must say, since a long time this were the most beautiful holidays on a boat. Of course a big reason was the lovely weather, every day sun and blue sky and temperatures some times nearly 30 degrees. And also the region with all the nice villages full of flowers was very impressive. People were very friendly and food was excellent. And our boat Nicols OCTO was really a very nice and comfortable boat!
